In a study on deprived neighbourhoods in the Netherlands the philosophy of the neighbourhood unit proved to be essential in understanding these neighbourhoods. Re-establishing the connectedness through a collective decision making process the residents, housing associations and local governments can be brought together. By creating a walkable area, defined by the laws of the founders of the neighbourhood unit, a territory is created where new functions can take place. The surface is divided in equal partitions, giving each resident an area of responsibility within the neighbourhood. This will keep the neighbourhood vibrant and lively, forcing residents to be involved in their neighbourhood through an ongoing developmental process.
Waterscraper is a submission for the eVolo skyscraper competition. The main goal of the competion is the design of a skyscraper of the future, built with contemporary technology. As part the architecture class at the AVANS University, we entered the Waterscraper project. As global warming is getting a bigger issue, making sea levels rise, buildable land is getting scarce. By designing the Waterscraper this is not an issue anymore, making it possible for micro-societies to live on the water.

Instead of raising a platform to observe the wildlife from a great distance, this observatory station gives the chance to engage with the wildlife in a much more intimate environment. By lowering the point of perspective observers will be given a completely new wildlife experience.
